The Park Val Sanagra

Just above the built-up area of Menaggio there is the splendid Parco Val Sanagra, a large territory rich with flora, fauna and antique rural settlements, where numerous walking routes are traced out. One of them starts at the location Piamuro and follows the course of the river Sanagra, among ancient mills and furnaces that used the Sanagra’s hydraulic energy, and leads to the ancient rural settlement of Monti di Madri. Another route, again starting at Piamuro, leads through Codogna, with some ancient elegant villas once owned by the local landowners, to “Il Rogolone” an enormous oak tree. In the Villa Camozzi at Codogna you can visit the Museum “Museo Etnografico Naturalistico della Val Sanagra” with rooms dedicated to the local flora, fauna and fossils of the park. One room is dedicated to the old Railway line that used to run in between Menaggio and Porlezza. Information www.museovalsanagra.it or tel. 0344 32115.
